Furna residents face challenges in accessing banking services

Vila Nova Sintra, September 26, 2024 (Bravanews) — Residents of Furna are increasingly concerned about the lack of access to banking services in the region. Currently, residents who wish to use debit cards, such as the 24 card, face the need to travel to the city of Nova Sintra, which not only generates additional expenses, but takes up almost the entire day for this purpose.

Many residents reported the difficulties they encounter in accessing financial services. "To use our debit card, we have to go to Nova Sintra, which involves spending 240 escudos, in addition to the time lost and the personal, professional and family impact caused by our trip," commented Antonio Laje, a Portuguese man married to a woman from Brava, who visits the island of Brava quite frequently and lives in the town of Furna.

Residents point out that the lack of an ATM in Furna is a critical issue, especially for those who depend on public transportation or who do not have their own means of transportation. “The situation is unsustainable. We need solutions that meet our needs without requiring long and costly commutes,” said Maria.

The lack of an ATM in Furna has caused discontent among residents, who believe that the lack of will on the part of the responsible institutions is one of the main factors preventing the installation of the equipment. "It is frustrating to feel that our needs are not taken into consideration. We believe that there are resources and conditions to resolve this issue, but it seems that there is no interest in serving the community," added Laje.

In addition to the financial costs, residents are also concerned about the environmental impact of frequent trips to the village. With the increase in the use of vehicles for these journeys, pollution and traffic have become visible problems in the region. “Preserving our environment is essential. We need solutions that not only improve access to services, but also respect the nature around us,” said Maria.

In response to these concerns, we tried to contact those responsible for the sector, but so far we have not received any response. However, residents hope that, with the growing pressure, the authorities will recognize the importance of installing an ATM in Furna and seek alternatives that will benefit the population.

Meanwhile, residents continue to call for changes and improvements that will ensure easier and more sustainable access to banking services. The hope is that Furna can count on an infrastructure that adequately meets the needs of its citizens.
